چکیده

Liesegang rings were first discovered more than 100 years ago by German chemists R. E. Liesegang and they attracted much attention since then. Liesegang rings are observed as spontaneous evolution of precipitate ring structure during diffusion of certain electrolyte into medium containing other electrolyte. One such example is diffusion of CuSO4 into gelatin containing K2CrO4 that is subject of our study. We present first results using X–Ray fluorescence technique for Cu–Cr system obtained at beam line BL4A, Photon Factory, KEK, Japan. Cu and Cr concentration profiles are in phase except the green ring at the boarder of the ring system with higher Cu concentration. Cu diffusion path is short, but in the case of 2 sources of CuSO4 the diffusion path is enhanced between them due to interference. Conditions for ring growth and time evolution of the 2 sources experiment are described as well.

Chronological Studies of Traffic Pollution Using Elemental Analysis of Tree Rings: Case Study of Haatso-atomic Road

Mitigation of atmospheric pollution has been a topic of concern over the past decades. In this study, tree rings have been used to reconstruct past climates as well as to assess the effects of recent climatic and environmental changes on tree growth. Vehicular emission is one of the major sources of pollutants in the atmosphere and this study focused on the Haatso-Atomic road which over the yea...

Quantitative analysis of heavy metals in automotive brake linings: a comparison between wet-chemistry based analysis and in-situ screening with a handheld X-ray fluorescence spectrometer.

Two extraction procedures for ecologically relevant elements present in automotive brake linings (Sb, Bi, Pb, Cd, Cr (total), Co, Cu, Mo, Ni, Sr, V, Zn, Sn) were developed and validated, applying a high pressure asher (HPA-S) and microwave extraction, respectively. Both of these methods allowed for the quantitative analysis of the extracted elements by inductively coupled plasma optical emissio...

Behavior of Cu-Cr Powder Mixtures During Mechanical Alloying (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In the present work, the behavior of Cu-Cr powder mixtures during mechanical alloying has been studied. The powder mixtures with 1, 3 and 6 weight percents of Cr in Cu were treated. They were milled in a ball mill with two different speeds of 250 and 500 rpm using equal numbers of 1 and 2 centimeters balls. The weight ratio of balls to powders was 10 to 1 under argon atmosphere. Ethanol was use...

Phytotoxic Effects of Heavy Metals on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Medical Plant, Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L.)

To assess the phytotoxicity of cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni) and zinc (Zn) on seed germination and seedling growth of Hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis L.), experiments were performed in different aqueous concentrations (50, 100 and 150μM) of aforementioned heavy metals over the period of 14 sequential days. The results showed that heavy metals adversely affect the normal gro...
